Ventures for Children International
Changing the World...One Child at a Time
JULY 2006

VCI has received our LICENSE to place children for adoption from VIETNAM.  We are receiving Applications from Christian couples and single women who would like to be considered for this program.  Contact VCI for more information.
Before Vietnam closed for Americans to adopt (January 2002) VCI was active in several provinces, providing compassionate AID and helping families navigate the confusing process of adopting from Vietnam.  God blessed our prayers and efforts, enabling us to provide donations to construct three orphanages and a large hospital clinic.
More than a quarter million US dollars was donated.  At the same time we were able to help more than 125 children find new hope through adoption into Christian homes in the U.S.

OCTOBER  2006

Marvin (VCI Director) traveled to Vietnam at the end of September and first week of October for his first extended trip since Vietnam reopened for adoption.  He spent most of his time in one province, meeting with officials and visiting numerous facilities with them to help suggest improvements.  The province has vocational centers, handicapped centers, orphan centers, etc. all with significant needs for property improvements and teaching tools and medical supplies.  Marvin donated several thousand dollars to help upgrade several facilities and donated money to help victims of the typhoon which hit the area while he was visiting (see below.)  Marvin also visited US Embassy staff and consular officers to review their expectations and to discuss sample documents to be sure our cases are handled properly and to be sure VCI always stays "above reproach."  Our assistant director for Vietnam was in every meeting to be sure he shares our commitment to integrity.  Marvin met with the director and assistant in the Department of International Adoption (D.I.A.) of the Ministry of Justice to establish good relationships there and to be sure VCI is always in compliance with Vietnamese laws and expectations. The bottom line is that we are excited by the possibilities, overwhelmed by the needs, realistic in our expectations, humbled by the graciousness of our many Vietnamese friends, and steady in our faith in our sovereign God who leads us and empowers us.
OCTOBER 2006

While Marvin was in Vietnam, Typhoon Xangsane blasted ashore just South of where he was working.  Several hundred lost their lives, including fourteen in the province where we will be adopting and providing aid.  Heavy rain fell all night, every night, and most facilities Marvin visited were flooded.  On Monday, nineteen children drowned in a tragic accident while riding a boat to school.  VCI has donated money to the families and to DoLISA (Department of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs) to help provide temporary relief.  More funds will be donated as they come available.  Check back for updates as they unfold.
